Art trail open

Posted on Tuesday 30 April 2024

A new open-air cultural experience, the Mosman Art Trail, has officially opened as part of a collaboration between Mosman Art Gallery, Mosman Council and The Balnaves Foundation.

The Art Trail, which takes walkers to 10 scenic locations along a 10-kilometre route, was launched on 30 April at Balmoral.

The series of interpretive signs depict 12 notable paintings from Mosman Art Gallery’s The Balnaves Gift, located at the site of the views that inspired the works.

The signs include QR codes, which visitors can use to listen to a spoken word commentary voiced by Australian actor Claudia Karvan.

Art curator, writer, artist and activist Djon Mundine OAM gave a Welcome to Country at the Art Trail launch event.

The first sign, showing Albert Henry Fullwood’s View from Balmoral, 1885, was unveiled by Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan, Mosman Art Gallery Director John Cheeseman, and Diane Balnaves, of The Balnaves Foundation.

About 50,000 people annually are expected to enjoy the cultural experience of the Art Trail, which is located along the Bondi to Manly Walk.
