Friendship Agreements
Mosman Council has established Friendship Agreements with a number of communities in Australia and worldwide. These links help establish a better understanding of different lifestyles and systems of education, arts, sport, tourism and business.
Glen Innes, NSW Mosman and Glen Innes share a common link in their early settlement through Archibald Mosman who left Mosman and settled in Glen Innes in 1838.
Isle of Wight, UK The historical link is that HMS Sirius, the principal naval escort to the First Fleet, set off from the Isle of Wight, was careened in Mosman Bay in 1789, and later sank at Norfolk Island.
Maubara, East Timor A Friendship Agreement with the Maubara community was signed in 2007. The Mosman Maubara Friendship Group was formed in 2008 to further these ties.
Mudanjiang, China The Friendship Agreement between Mosman and Mudanjiang was formed in 1998 to provide an opportunity to develop closer ties between Australia and China at the local, community level.
Norfolk Island Mosman and Norfolk Island share a strand of Australia’s early history through their association with His Majesty’s Ship Sirius, the principal naval escort to the First Fleet.
Paciano, Italy The Friendship Agreement between Mosman and Paciano originated in 1991 from a suggestion by Mr Geoffrey Luck, a former Mosman resident who moved to Paciano.
