Role of Group

  • To encourage community dialogue on the development and review of the Social/Community Plan
  • To assist understanding of the needs and aspirations of the community in regard to social issues and community development and services
  • To provide advice on planning for any new community programs and enhancements to existing programs
  • To support in particular the needs of those who have physical or intellectual disabilities and to support the needs of carers
  • To raise awareness concerning mental illness and to support those who suffer and their carers
  • To promote the process of reconciliation and to facilitate community education
  • To consider issues arising from the SHOROC Regional Health Services Liaison Committee
  • To liaise with Police in relation to matters arising from Local Solutions to Local Crime & Safety Issues – a Collaborative Management Plan
  • To support road safety initiatives especially education strategies
  • To provide an avenue for liaison with the school communities on community service matters
  • To provide advice on social issues which may affect the Mosman community with a view to Council’s advocacy role
  • To consult and communicate with the Council and each other
  • To celebrate the role of volunteers

Membership

  • Elected representatives: Chair: Cr Anne Connon; Deputy Chair: Cr Simon Menzies
  • Responsible Officers: Community Development Manager through the Director Community Development to convene and service the Group and to report to Council when appropriate
  • Other staff attending: Other staff as required
  • Community: Representatives from interested community and service organisations and societies, agencies, schools, churches and the like, representatives from the target groups, particularly volunteers and any residents who have particular expertise or interest in the role of the Community Group

Review

  • Role and membership of the group to be reviewed each year in September with membership refreshed every year through public advertisement and invitation to interested residents, particularly volunteers, community and service organisations and societies, agencies, schools, churches and existing members.
