Role of Group

  • To encourage community dialogue on the formulation of Environmental Policy.
  • To assist Council in the annual review of its Environmental Management Plan.
  • To assist Council in reporting on its environmental performance.
  • To provide advice on the state, management and conservation of terrestrial, marine and intertidal biodiversity in and around Mosman.
  • To assist Council in identifying how the community values the environment and to provide advice on issues to be addressed, target audience, and communication mechanisms to raise environmental awareness and positively influence behavioural change.
  • To provide feedback to Council on the effectiveness of its Waste and Recycling Service.

Membership

  • Elected representatives: Chair: Cr Lynette Elsegood; Deputy Chair: Cr Patricia Harvey
  • Responsible Officers: Manager Environment & Services and Manager Assets & Services through the Director Environment and Planning to convene and service the Group and to report to Council when appropriate.
  • Other staff attending: Environmental Co-ordinator, Team Leader – Open Space, Team Leader – Service Contracts and other staff as required.
  • Community: Community representatives to cover the variety of roles of the Group, particularly volunteers, representatives from state government agencies, academic institutions, Schools and independent experts as required, and any residents who have particular expertise or interest in the role of the Community Group.

Review

  • Role and membership of the group to be reviewed each year in September with membership refreshed every year through public advertisement and invitation to interested residents, state government agencies, academic institutions, schools, volunteers, independent experts and existing members.
