Safe Communities program

Safe Communities

The Safe Communities program is an international program of the World Health Organisation.

The goal of the Safe Communities program is to reduce the incidence of injury by developing community based approaches to injury prevention.

Under the umbrella of safe communities the SHOROC regional councils of Mosman, Manly, Warringah and Pittwater have developed some key projects. They cover personal safety, road safety, child safety, sports injury prevention, falls prevention among seniors, water safety and fire safety.

Mosman Council is involved in Seniors’ Safety including falls prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. This is being achieved through the provision of regular gentle exercise classes and Tai Chi sessions at the Mosman Square Seniors’ Centre, the development of walking maps containing easy walks around Mosman and the establishment of the Mosman Leisure Walkers, a group that organises walks that are open to all older people in Mosman.
