Mosman Sustainability Group
The Mosman Sustainability Group assists Council in integrating sustainability into policy, planning, management and operational frameworks and developing and implementing sustainability projects as appropriate. The Group provides up-to-date information and advice to Council and promotes sustainable practices to the Mosman community.
The Mosman Sustainability Group was established in 2007 following a request for expressions of interest for membership from community members and invitation of selected experts working in various fields. Six community members were selected from a pool of highly qualified and experienced applicants. Six invited experts were confirmed and the first meeting was held in July 2007.
Meetings are open to all interested residents who may attend as observers. As meeting dates and locations are subject to change, anyone interested in attending a meeting of the Mosman Sustainability Group as an observer should contact Council’s Environment Officer on 9978 4043. The Mosman Sustainability Group operates in accordance with the Community Groups Code of Conduct (PDF 35KB).
Meetings
- Four times per annum on a Thursday commencing at 6pm.
- Members are expected to attend at least two of the four meetings.
- Sub-meetings may be held in addition to the four formal meetings per year as necessary.
Subject Areas
The Mosman Sustainability Group provides information and advice to Mosman Council on current and future sustainability issues, including but not limited to the following:
- Climate change
- Water
- Biodiversity conservation
- Habitat protection
- Sustainable transport
- Sustainable living
Role of Group
- To assist Council in integrating sustainability into policy, planning, management and operational frameworks;
- To provide up-to-date information and advice to Council on present and future sustainability issues and means to address these issues;
- To promote sustainable practices and raise community awareness of the concept of sustainability; and
- To assist Council in the development and implementation of sustainability projects as appropriate.
Membership
- Elected representatives: Chair: Dr Mehreen Faruqi; Deputy Chair: Dr Dieter Hochuli
- Responsible Officers: Mosman Council’s Manager Environment & Services, Environmental Co-ordinator and Environment Officer to convene and service the Group and to report to Council when appropriate.
- Community: Six community representatives.
- Invited experts: Six experts invited to join the Group (includes the Chair and Deputy Chair).
