FRAGILE TREASURES: 60 Years of Ceramics Collecting

The exhibition Fragile Treasures presents a unique opportunity to view outstanding examples of ceramics held in the personal collections of members of the Ceramic Collectors Society.
It also marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the society in Sydney in 1949.
The exhibition will feature antique to contemporary English, Australian, European and Oriental porcelain and pottery, as well as many objects rarely seen by the public.
Throughout the exhibition viewers will be able to enjoy a number of talks by passionate collectors as they share their knowledge of ceramics and its history.
The Ceramic Collectors Society aims to “promote appreciation and knowledge of ceramic art and to form a meeting ground for all those interested in ceramics”.

Precious Porcelain: From East to West with Elizabeth Ramsden
Saturday 20 June, 2.00pm
Porcelain has always been a precious and prized commodity which has been collected for centuries. Elizabeth Ramsden, past president of the Ceramic Collectors Society and collector for 30 years, will talk on the development of porcelain over the centuries from its origins in the orient to the ever incresing demand for it in Europe, and the great porcelain factories of Germany, France and England. Free. Afternoon tea included.
Fragile Treasures: Introduction to the World of Ceramics and Collecting with Rhona Clement
Sunday 5 July, 2.00pm
Past president of the Ceramic Collectors Society, and a collector for three decades, Rhona Clement, will introduce you to the world of collecting ceramics, as illustrated by the diverse pieces in the Fragile Treasure exhibition. Types of ceramic wares, decoration, styles and shape will be discussed. Free. Afternoon tea included.
