Social Media Mob - September meetup
- Date
- Thursday 3 September 2009
- Time
- 6:00PM - 8:00PM
- Place
- Mosman Library
Are you part of a local community group, non-profit organisation or resident network? Want to better communicate, organise and share information online?
We can help.
Mosman Library is hosting an informal monthly meetup for local groups to talk social media with our volunteer experts social media champions.
It’s your chance to ask questions – and get answers in plain English! – about the tools and technologies that are revolutionising the way people interact, both on and offline.
The structure is informal – no presentations, just small group or one-on-one discussion with an emphasis on practical examples and advice.
What are blogs, podcasts, social networks? Where can I join one? How can I start one? What’s the best tool for me?
We hope you’ll go away inspired to start communicating, organising and sharing your local knowledge online.
Interested?
Join us at Mosman Library (downstairs meeting room) on Thursday 3 September at 6pm.
About Social Media Mob – Mosman
Can I come?
If you’re a Mosman resident or belong to a Mosman based community group or non-profit, please come and join us.
If you’d like to volunteer as a social media champion, we’d also love to have you along. Email webteam@mosman.nsw.gov.au or tweet us.
RSVPs are appreciated. The sign-up sheet (above) will help us guage numbers and match needs to champions.
Who are the social media champions?
It could be you! For the first few meetups, Council’s Internet Coordinator will be inviting locals and interested non-residents who are active participants on the web. Hopefully you’ll be returning to share your knowledge with others in the future!
Internet access
The Library has WiFi so bring your laptop or WiFi-enabled phone if you have one. But we’ll also have PCs in the Library, and of course, we can talk without a computer.
Who came up with the idea?
Birmingham’s social media surgeries are the model we’re working off. It’s an opportunity for neighbourhoods, community groups and local residents to help each other communicate, organise and just do things online.
What is social media?
There are lots of definitions – but we like to think of it as the collective creativity enabled by the world wide web. In Mosman, people are sharing memories of their streets, mums and dads are helping each other with parenting while Mosman Readers are discussing books. And it’s only just begun…
I still have a question
