Stories to Tell: Bob Mitchell, Memory and oral history interviewing

In this session participants will gain an insight into preparing questions, conducting an interview and the use of techniques such as mind mapping.
Examining the use of the five senses, and his famous “Box of Tricks”, Bob Mitchell will examine the reliability of memory and look at sorting fact from fiction.
Other topics covered include privacy and copyright issues, post-interview tasks such as logging and transcribing and ideas on what to do with the completed interview.

Bob Mitchell
Perhaps better known as The Memory Man, Bob has experience in family history interviewing, presenting oral history courses and memory sessions for therapists and aged carers. His book 1001 Life Story Questions has proved to be a great resource for oral history interviewers.
