National Whale Day was launched in 2008 by IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare).

Gamarada: Mosman’s Whale

In 2007, Mosman Council adopted a mother humpback whale in support of the Humpback Whale Migration Icon Project.
Mosman’s whale has been named ‘Gamarada’ by Mosman Reconciliation.
Gamarada (pronounced Gamada) comes from the Sydney Aboriginal language and means friend.
Of course, it’s not just about one whale, but a symbol of protection and care for our marine environment as a whole!
