How can I join the Library?

It is free to join and you do not have to be a resident of Mosman. You need to visit the Library, fill out an application form, and provide some form of identification and proof of address. If you are under 18 your application must be signed by a parent or guardian. If you are already a member of another Shorelink Library you can use your card at Mosman.

How many items can I borrow? How long can I borrow for?

You may borrow up to 12 items. Some conditions apply to children’s items. You may borrow DVDs for 1 week and all other items for up to 3 weeks. You may renew items once as long as they are not overdue or reserved.

How do I renew items online?

What do I do if there’s a fine on my card?

Fines accrue per item per day until the item is returned. Details of the fine will be maintained on your membership record until paid. You may pay fines at any time at the main desk.

I think I have lost this item, what can I do?

You will receive a letter after 3 weeks notifying you that the book is overdue. You will receive a final letter after 6 weeks requesting payment for replacement costs.

Can I get help doing my assignment?

There is a Librarian available at the customer service desk on both levels at all times. The Reference section on the lower floor has a wide range of print and electronic resources.

How can my child get help for a project?

There is a Reference section in the Children’s Library. There is a Children’s Librarian and Assistant available during the week. Homework help is available each weekday afternoon. Children may borrow 2 items per subject per family for projects.

What if the Library does not hold the item I want?

We will either purchase the item (if it is recently published), or try to obtain it through Inter-Library Loan.

Can I get help using the computers?

Please ask Library desk staff if you require help using the Webcat computer catalogue. Library staff also offer fee-based Internet lessons.

Can I use the Internet?

Yes! Free public internet access is available for information and research. Computers are also available for email (such as Hotmail) and may be booked at a half-hourly cost.

Bookings for internet PCs are made using the Library’s booking system. You will need your Mosman Library membership card or a casual print/copy card to make a booking.

Wireless access to the internet is available free. Please ask at the Reference Desk for a wireless password.

It is possible to send and receive attachments using a USB drive. Printing is available at a cost per page.

Do you have photocopier, fax and office facilities?

There are 3 photocopiers – one coin operated black & white photocopier and two colour/black & white photocopiers that use your membership card or casual print/copy card. There is a fax machine, and charges per page apply for sending and receiving faxes. Computers are available with MS Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, and may be booked at an hourly cost.

Where can I search the history of my house or family?

The Local Studies collection holds a number of useful resources to assist with researching Mosman houses. There are various genealogical records on microfilm and CDROMs.
