Cycling

The Spit West Cycle Way is off road and is excellent for children and beginners. It is forms part of the alternate regional route that connects Mosman with Manly and North Sydney.
Mosman has a number of scenic and well graded cycling routes, offering great potential for recreational and commuting cyclists.
Cyclists in Mosman can enjoy spectacular views, journey through expansive foreshore parkland and bushland reserves, and stop at many excellent cafes on route.
There are several local cycling routes in addition to a regional route linking Mosman to North Sydney and Manly:

- Regional Bicycle Routes (PDF 174KB)

Most cycle routes in the area are graded medium in difficulty with some steep hills, but they avoid the high traffic volume along Military and Spit Roads.
When travelling across the Spit Bridge, it is recommended to cycle on the western side footpath, allowing pedestrians clear and safe access on the eastern footpath of the Spit Bridge. The western side footpath of the bridge joins up with the newest part of the cycle route along the foreshore of Spit West Reserve.
Active Transport Working Group
The Active Transport Working Group was formed in late 2010 to facilitate the implementation of the Mosman Strategic Plan (MOSPLAN) Objective 11:05.
Objective 11:05 is to reduce the reliance on private vehicles for local trips through the expansion of pedestrian and cycling facilities.
The group members are Councillors, Council staff and nominated Community representatives. The group meets every 2 months and the meeting minutes are reported to Traffic Committee.
How can we encourage people to walk and cycle instead of using their car?
Mosman Council launched active.mosman.nsw.gov.au in June 2011. The website aims to keep you informed of our work on ‘active transport’ in Mosman. The site is an opportunity to share the resources that we collate, get your feedback and work together on this question.
