New Audio Readers at Mosman Library

Audio Navigator

Mosman Library has purchased 20 Audio Navigator devices for Home Library Service readers and other sight impaired readers. The Navigators are user friendly digital audio players that can hold up to 5 books at a time.

Ten of the audio readers were funded by a donation of $7,500 from the Lions Club of Mosman.

“We are very grateful to the Lions Club for their generous donation which allowed us to purchase the extra 10 audio Navigators which could not be funded from the Library’s Budget” said Linda Horswell, Manager Library Services.

The Navigators are designed so that people with little or no technical knowledge can use them easily. “They are as easy to use as tape cassette or CD players and they have the added benefit of being able to hold multiple books at one time. We can download a book on multiple audio navigators so for bestsellers and popular books there is no longer any waiting list.”

The Navigators can hold not only books but newspapers and journals and due to the format are cheaper to maintain than audio books on cassette which are getting more difficult to purchase as they are are phased out of production.
