From the Mayor - 26 May 2021

Posted on Wednesday 26 May 2021

Terrific heart-warming news for the start of our winter season was the successful resuscitation of a young 20 year old gentleman at the Balmoral Basketball Court on Mother’s Day. When I spoke to both his parents they had nothing but absolute praise for the outstanding community teamwork and effort by all involved including residents, team mates, the police and ambulance crews. Critically, a working defibrillator was nearby and contributed to saving the young man’s life. Council has the locations of defibrillators in Mosman on its website and I urge all residents to familiarise themselves with this information.

Staying with community, Council is currently recruiting a Children and Families Community Development Officer who will work with families as well as other local children’s services providers to help deliver the best possible educational, social and emotional outcomes for our children. One of the first tasks to be undertaken will be overseeing the re-introduction of our playgroup at the Drill Hall. Council continues to prioritise facilities for children and families with a range of wonderful programs and resources at our Library and Art Gallery, and playground upgrades at Memory Park and Hunter Park budgeted to proceed in 2021/22.

Council is expected to formally adopt the 2021/22 MOSPLAN Operational Plan and Budget at our June Council Meeting. This is the final operational plan for the current Council and I thank my fellow Councillors for their co-operation and teamwork. I am very proud that the current Council has, in very challenging economic times, been able to maintain a strong financial base and a solid record of comprehensive service for the incoming Council.

In closing, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Katrina Cashman who is leaving Mosman Art Gallery after 22 years of dedicated service. So many residents and visitors to our Art Gallery have benefited from Katrina’s extensive creative knowledge, her commitment to cultivating and advancing Mosman’s artistic endeavours and her genuine warmth and friendliness. On behalf of Council and the community, I wish Katrina all the very best in her new professional adventure.
