The Mayor's Column
Community activities bind us together and strengthen the social fabric of our lives. They are a very important way in which to meet neighbours, share interests and make new friends.
Mosman Council has many such opportunities on the calendar throughout the year.
Here are some upcoming events for all ages and interests.
They are all free of charge and part of the service to our community from Mosman Council. So come along!
Film Screening: Liyarn Ngarn. Thursday March 27th 6.30pm at Council Chambers, Civic Square.
Set in West Kimberley area around Broome, the film documents the life and hauntingly beautiful music of Archie Roach, who was stolen from his parents when he was three; Patrick Dodson, a champion of Aboriginal rights; and a young poet, Robbie Walker, who died in jail.
A very powerful film with a critical message.
Climate Change Challenge Launch. Saturday March 29th, 1pm to 4 on the Village Green near Council Chambers.
Free BBQ, eco-stalls, fun for the kids, giveaways, demonstrations, green-living talks.
We hope you will sign up to become part of our Challenge. Mosman will be the first metropolitan council to take the Challenge. Our target is at least a thousand households and businesses agreeing to reduce their carbon footprint.
We have measured our ecological footprint and it shows that of the average Australian’s is 7.8 whilst a Mosmanite’s is 14.7
All the information is in the kit you will receive or www.climatechallenge.org.au
Candle Light Picnic. Saturday March 29th at 8 pm at The Rotunda at Balmoral.
Mosman has signed up to mark Earth Hour, when the whole world is asked to turn off lights and appliance for one hour, to raise awareness of global warming and its consequences and reflect on what action we as individuals and communities can take.
The picnic is organised by Mosman’s Climate Challenge Group. Bring a rug, a picnic and candles.
