LEP & DCP Review

Mosman Council is undertaking a major review of its town planning controls to help ensure Mosman remains a sustainable and vibrant place to live, work and participate in.

The review will result in the preparation of a new local environmental plan (LEP) that will apply to the whole Mosman local government area. The LEP will control development and guide planning decisions made by Council to facilitate new development that is compatible and appropriate with the preferred role and character of the area.

The new LEP will replace Council’s existing LEP, the Mosman Local Environmental Plan 1998, and will be prepared consistent with a standard instrument introduced by the State Government on 31 March 2006.

As part of the planning review, new development control plans (DCPs) will also be prepared. The DCPs will provide more detailed planning and design guidelines for development in Mosman. The new DCPs will replace all Council’s existing DCPs.

The draft LEP has been with the NSW Department of Planning since July 2007 awaiting approval to put the plan on exhibition for community comment. Due to the ongoing delay it is unlikely that the exhibition period would commence earlier than late this year or early 2009.

It is important that we all work together to identify and shape what Mosman should look like in 5 to 10 years time.
