Michael Delany

A life long resident of Mosman, Michael attended Saint Ignatius College at Riverview.

Michael represented New South Wales and Australia between 1978 and 1985 winning numerous State and National swimming titles.

He moved to Queensland to train with coach Laurie Lawrence and in 1982 was selected for the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane. He was a founding member of the orginal 'Mean Machine' relay team. He won both gold and bronze medals, in the 4x100m freestyle and the 100m freestyle respectively.

In 1984 he was selected for the 4x100m relay team at the Los Angeles Olympics. The 'Mean Machine' of Michael Delany, Neil Brooks, Greg Fasala and Mark Stockwell won the silver medal.

In 2000 he was awarded the Australian Sports Medal.
