Mosman goes electric

Posted on Wednesday 23 June 2021

Mosman Council has taken delivery of its first fully electric fleet vehicle and an electric bike as part of its strategy to further reduce CO2 emissions.

The shift to sustainable transport is in line with Council’s Climate Action Strategy to facilitate transport with low emissions by encouraging the uptake of electric and renewable fuel vehicles throughout the community and follows the installation of a public Evie Networks fast electric vehicle charger at Mosman Square Car Park.

The Hyundai Ioniq Electric has replaced the oldest vehicle in Council’s fleet and its acquisition marks the start of a gradual transition of the fleet to electric vehicles.

About 180kg in emissions has been saved every week since the charger’s installation in December last year while the conversion to an electric fleet vehicle will save about three tonnes in annual emissions.

Council staff have also begun using the e-bike as an alternative to using a fleet vehicle within the Mosman area.
