2018 Mosman Youth Art Prize
Calling all artists! Registrations are now open for one of the richest prizes for young artists – the 2018 Mosman Youth Art Prize!
Young artists are invited to register now for the 2018 Mosman Youth Art Prize. Initiated by internationally acclaimed and local artist Ken Done AM in 1988, the Prize is one of the longest running and richest prizes for young artists in Australia. The exhibition features the diverse talents of our region’s young, aspiring and emerging artists aged 12 – 21 and offers them the opportunity to exhibit their work in a public art gallery. This is a popular competition with close to 400 entries received annually with entrants from all over Sydney and regional areas. Many of the past winners have gone on to become professional artists and work within the arts industry.
Entry is online at mosmanartgallery.org.au with the receipting of artworks at the gallery on Monday 5 March.
To celebrate the Prize’s 30th Birthday, this year entries will be judged by Ken Done whose vibrant paintings and design work is widely recognised as holding a unique position in Australia’s cultural heritage. Done has been a long-time supporter of art in Australia, especially among young people. “I am thrilled to have been asked to judge this year’s Mosman Youth Art Prize. Over the last 30 years there has always been outstanding work from very talented young artists. To be a judge is a great challenge. I can only do my best,” says Done.
The Mosman Youth Art Prize has again secured a generous primary sponsorship from luxury car dealer Audi Centre Mosman which is contributing $5,000 towards the cash prizes. With this money, the Prize provides rewards for young artists seeking a career in the visual arts and makes the Mosman Youth Art Prize one of the richest competitions for youth with cash prizes totalling $8,000 plus over $10,000 in art scholarships, materials and other prizes.
The Prize is also supported by local businesses, art schools and other organisations including the Ken Done Gallery, Fourth Village Providore, Northshore School of Art, The Julian Ashton Art School and The Rotary Club of Mosman,. Awards will also be given by the National Art School, the Australian Watercolour Institute, Mosman Art Society / Art Smart and Friends of Mosman Art Gallery.
The winners will be announced at the exhibition opening night on Friday 16 March, 6.30pm. The exhibition runs from 17 March – 15 April 2018.
