Rapt 2016 Christmas decoration competition wraps up

Posted on Thursday 15 December 2016

Rapt 2016 has attracted a record 91 entries from Mosman businesses around the area, including Spit Road and Military Road strips, Bridgepoint, Avenue Road, Vista Street and Myahgah Mews.

Now in its sixth year, Rapt has become a festive tradition in Mosman’s business and retail precincts and was expanded last year to include residential categories to help residents to get into the festive spirit with a chance to win some great prizes.

Mosman Mayor Peter Abelson congratulated the winners of the competition, which is a joint initiative of Mosman Council and the Mosman Chamber of Commerce and supported by The Mosman Daily, commending all entrants for their efforts in creating beautiful Christmas displays.

The winners of the business categories for RAPT 2016 are:

Guanta Boutique – Best Overall Display

Prize:

  • Bowls and canapes for 10 people by Warringah Bowls Mosman (valued at $300)
  • Promotional display pillar by Signarama (valued at $350)
  • Dinner voucher for 2 people at Stranded Gourmet (valued at $150)

Floriade – Best Lighting Display

Prize:

  • Rancan Sisters Fitness Taster Pack (valued at $200)
  • Lunch or dinner voucher at Harbourview Room, Mosman Club (valued at $100)

Mosman Chiropractic Centre – Most Sustainable Display

Prize:

  • $300 voucher to Fish and Co, the Sustainable Seafood Café in Annandale.

The competition was judged by the Mosman Chamber of Commerce and Mosman Council representatives who commented: “Judging the overall winner for best display was a difficult choice, given the variety of displays and the record number of entries this year. Ultimately we chose Guanta Boutique as our favourite. Guanta Boutique brought many elements together to deliver a simple yet magical Christmas display. We were impressed with the originality and simplicity of the display and its sophisticated celebration of the Christmas season”.

The difficulty in choosing business category winners is illustrated in the number of entries receiving highly commended awards this year. The judges said: “The recipients of highly commended awards variously impressed us in their use of lighting, their overall design concept and delivery, and their approach to sustainability”.

The recipients of the commendations of the business categories for RAPT 2016 are: Accoutrement, Born to Party, Bounce Sydney, Hunter & Alexandra, Kidstuff, MacMedic, Papaya, Savoir Faire and Wild Orchid Lingerie. Entrant Bendigo Bank won the Participant’s Draw prize of an Accoutrement Demonstration Cooking Class valued at $130.

The winners of the residential categories for RAPT 2016 are:

46 Prince Albert Street, Mosman – Best Residential Property – Lighting Display

Prize:

  • $250 voucher for lunch or dinner at The Public Dining Room, Balmoral
  • Taronga Zoo one day family pass for 2 adults and 2 kids (valued at $129.60)

According to the judges: “This was an elegant display, which not only portrayed Christmas but amazingly combined Christmas lights with those of the city. We appreciated the overall design and the contrast of sections. This was a spectacular display that featured multiple elements such as the reindeer and stars on the roof and trees, twinkle lights that change on the front fence and garage and overall had a good spread of colour and lights”.

19a Prince Albert Street, Mosman – Best Residential Property – People’s Choice

Prize:

  • Fourth Village Providore Christmas hamper (valued at $200)
  • Taronga Zoo one day family pass for 2 adults and 2 kids (valued at $129.60)

One lucky People’s Choice voter won a Champagne Afternoon Tea for two at Gunners Barracks, just by voting for their favourite Christmas display.

Mosman Council and the Mosman Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all the entrants for their participation and the businesses who generously donated prizes for the Rapt 2016.
