Refurbished Balmoral Promenade reopens

Balmoral Promenade reopened last week after extensive refurbishment works which began in May were completed on schedule and within budget on Friday.

“The works will remain in place for the next 50 years and because of their significance it was considered important the project was not rushed to ensure high quality standards were maintained,” Director of Environment and Planning Craig Covich said.

“Council has received very positive feedback about the project since the promenade reopened with residents and visitors alike commenting that the high standard and quality of the works has shown it was worth the wait.”

The works were needed to improve the safety and amenity of the ageing walkway after cavities were found underneath the paving.

The footpath design was settled on with input from the Visual Amenity Community Consultative Committee, architects and structural engineers and was in keeping with the heritage significance of the seawall.

Further works will now be carried out around the Rotunda in March and April next year while additional concrete seating will be installed south of Balmoral Baths after the Easter holidays.

In another major upgrade, designs for the new-look Mosman Junction roundabout have been completed and the project will go to tender before Christmas so that works can start in the New Year.

Pedestrian access will be improved and footpaths widened with additional lighting installed to promote outdoor dining in line with community requests for additional outdoor and evening dining opportunities.

Residents and businesses will be notified of temporary changes to road access once project timelines are known.
