Sporting Fields Use and Maintenance Policy
- Council exhibited a Draft Policy for Management and Use and of Sporting Fields (Draft Policy) and called for submissions from user groups and the community earlier this year. On 6 September 2011 Council considered feedback that was received and resolved to revise the Draft Policy and again seek comments from user groups. Representatives of all user groups have been notified that the revised document is available for review and invited to consult with Council staff prior to making further submissions. If you would like to discuss the content of the draft policy please contact Council’s Team Leader Open Space and Asset Management, John Grady, on 9978 4060. You can also complete an online submission here.

Mosman Council Grounds Annual Grounds Restoration Works
Mosman Council’s sports fields are heavily used year round for both summer and winter sports. At the end of the heavy use of the winter season Council undertakes a program of oval restoration works annually in September. This gets the ovals back into good condition for summer users and also gives the turf the full spring and summer growing seasons to establish and bind the playing surface so it is in the best possible condition to hold up to higher impact winter sports. Below are some examples of works that are done.
Oval Management Hotline
A recorded message provides latest information – phone 9978 4136.
All user groups should phone the Hotline before each training session and game.
This service provides information on whether sporting fields are open or closed for approved bookings for training and games.
The closure of sporting fields provides optimum playing surface conditions for players throughout the season given the different usage patterns and weather experienced.
Sporting fields may also be closed for maintenance purposes; eg. top-dressing, weed spraying, irrigation works; or when the weather is fine but the grounds are considered too wet for use.
