The demographics of Mosman are presented in the Community Profile, Community Atlas and Population Forecasts for the Mosman Local Government Area (LGA).

These are available online to inform Council, the business community, students, researchers, investors and the community in general.

Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics is presented in table and chart format with brief commentary (Community Profile) and interactive maps (Community Atlas).

Mosman LGA data can be compared with Warringah and Pittwater LGAs, and the Sydney region as a whole.

Community Profile of Mosman

The Community Profile presents a comprehensive socio-demographic profile based on Census information for the Mosman LGA and for smaller designated areas within it. It presents statistics from the 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 Censuses of Population and Housing in table and graph format. It enables detailed analysis of the changes to the Mosman community over a 15 year period.

It answers questions such as:

  • How many people live in Mosman?
  • Who are we?
  • What do we do?
  • How do we live?

Community Atlas of Mosman

The Community Atlas uses interactive maps to present key socio-demographic characteristics of Mosman.

The spatial representation of Census data helps identify ‘pockets’ of difference across and within the Mosman LGA.

The Atlas uses data from the 2001 Census of Population and Housing produced by the Australia Bureau of Statistics. It will be updated with data from the 2006 census early in 2008. The maps are based on Census Collector Districts (CCDs). CCDs contain around 250 households each and are the smallest Census geographic unit available. Mosman contains 60 CCDs.

Population Forecasts

The Population Forecasts look to the future and answer questions such as:

  • How many people will live here?
  • How will our population change?
