From the Mayor - 25 January 2023

Posted on Wednesday 25 January 2023

Happy New Year Mosman, including best wishes for families currently enjoying Lunar New Year celebrations. Whilst many of us have been relaxing and vacationing over the January holiday season, Council has been a hive of activity with a smorgasbord of school holiday and seniors events. Community events are constantly updated on Council’s Events Mosman website or another way to stay informed about the latest Council news and community events is to subscribe to our twice-monthly MosmanNow e-newsletter and weekly and monthly events newsletters at mosman.nsw.gov.au/newsletters

In good news for the environment, the two new EV charging stations at Raglan Street West Car Park have proved popular since coming online in December, with more usage and quicker uptake than the first fast charger at Mosman Square Car Park.

Seniors Week kicks off on 1 February with a jam-packed events program, connecting with the 2023 theme, Celebrating Together. I will be attending a number of events, and especially enjoy the Dance Party held at the Great Hall of Mosman Art Gallery. At the other end of the age spectrum, Council’s popular Connections Playgroup re-recommences on 3 February at the Drill Hall, and I imagine dancing is also on their play program.

Mosman Art Gallery is hosting two official Sydney Festival exhibitions, including The Colour in the Code by award winning local artist Ernest Edmonds and an accompanying group exhibition featuring work by artists influenced by him. Visitors can explore, play and become drenched in glorious vivid, saturated colour – definitely not to be missed.

I am looking forward to another positive and productive year for Council and am planning a ‘town hall’ style community meeting, the first we have been able to hold for a number of years, a little later in the year to provide residents the opportunity to hear and ask questions about what is ahead for Mosman. At our first Council Meeting on 7 February, I will officially acknowledge, via a Mayoral Minute, Mosman’s Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year for 2023, who were announced at our Australia Day event, and all residents and visitors are warmly welcome to attend.

In closing, good luck to all our students returning for the 2023 school year.
