Mosman Carers group celebrates 15 years

Posted on Thursday 29 November 2018

In February, Mosman Carers Group will celebrate 15 years of supporting Carers in Mosman. The group was formed to provide Carers with the opportunity to learn more about the valuable role they have undertaken looking after their loved ones as well as ensuring they learn how to take care of themselves.

“Over the years, many of our wonderful Carers have found the meetings have provided invaluable support, understanding and information to help them care for a loved one, relative or friend with an illness, disability or dementia,” Liz Nagel, Mosman Councils Carers Program Coordinator recalls. “Our weekly meetings are a very welcoming and safe place where Carers can feel comfortable asking those ‘awkward’ questions as well as meeting other people who understand the issues they may face day to day.”

“Most weeks we have guest speakers covering a wide and varied range of subjects, from legal information to adjusting to the changes the caring role can bring to your life to coping with grief and loss.

“We have speakers from Dementia Australia and Carers NSW, as well as fun sessions such as art therapy, morning teas and full day bus outings for lunch which gives our Carers time out and the chance to relax, have a laugh and a good old chat.

“The Mosman Carers Group is for anyone who is caring for someone with an illness, a disability or dementia. We are a welcoming and friendly bunch that meet every Wednesday from 10am until 12pm at Mosman Council and we’d love you to join us! There is no charge and tea and coffee are provided,” Liz concludes.
