Mosman Junction Upgrade comes full circle
The much-anticipated Mosman Junction Upgrade is near completion, with finishing touches such as decorative lights and landscaping due for installation in coming weeks.
The Mosman Junction Upgrade has created a new pedestrian-friendly area at the section known as Centenary Circle where Prince Albert Street, Middle Head Road and Bradleys Head Road converge. The project has created outdoor dining spaces and improved pedestrian access to the area to create a safe, functional and vibrant hub.
The works have resulted in the creation of two alfresco spaces, improvements to landscaping and lighting, three pedestrian crossings for safe passage through the precinct and the closure of the slip lane outside The Buena.
Mosman Council’s Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said the project’s aim was to build on Mosman’s local identity and village character and to respond to community requests for improvements to the Military Road streetscape.
“The community has largely been very supportive while having to navigate a number of temporary changes to parking, road closures and night works and we thank residents for their patience in waiting for the project to come together,” Mr Covich said.
“Our consultations showed a very strong desire for these changes and Council trusts residents and businesses alike will agree it’s been worth the wait for this beautiful vibrant hub which can be enjoyed for many years to come.”
Community members will have their first taste of the upgraded area when Mosman Junction is officially opened next week with a free community event for residents. The event will feature entertainment, food provided by local businesses, and a kids’ corner with cupcake-making and face painting.
Residents are encouraged to be the first to enjoy the purpose-built outdoor space by joining in these festivities at Mosman Junction (near the roundabout) on Thursday 27 September from 6pm to 8pm after the Mayor cuts the ribbon.
The final changes to the area’s street lighting are still in the works, with approvals resting with Ausgrid.
