Winners of Rapt 2018 Announced

Posted on Thursday 13 December 2018

Now in its eighth year Christmas decorating competition Rapt has become a festive tradition for Mosman’s businesses and retail precincts. The competition is a joint initiative of Mosman Council and the Mosman Chamber of Commerce, and proudly supported by the Mosman Daily.

Rapt 2018 attracted 72 entries from businesses located along the Spit Road and Military Road retail precincts, in Bridgepoint, as well as along Avenue Road, Vista Street, Canrobert Street and in Myahgah Mews.

Entries were judged by representatives from the Mosman Chamber of Commerce and Mosman Council, and winners announced on Wednesday evening, 12 December at the Chamber’s Christmas Party held at Mosman Art Gallery.

Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan said the judges were impressed by the number of entries and the overall standard of displays for Rapt 2018: “The competition has clearly encouraged businesses to participate in this community celebration, to the great benefit of Mosman residents and to all visitors and shoppers during the Christmas season.”

Judges were unanimous in selecting French homewares store Montmartre on Military Road as the overall winner. They felt it was a delightful, well-conceived display that was successful in evoking a warm and emotional response from viewers, and was beautifully executed, balancing a sense of luxury and softness with simplicity and home values.

“This window display was successful in generating a sense of wonder, demonstrating a nostalgia that appeals to adult viewers as well as engaging children who look forward to the joys of Christmas ahead,” Mayor Corrigan said.

Best lighting display was awarded to The Buena. Judges reported the lighting around Mosman’s popular hotel, restaurant and bar establishment had an immediate impact and took great advantage of The Buena’s significant location. They felt The Buena had carefully utilised the spaces available to create a bold display that is festive, stylish and joyful.

“The Buena’s beautiful lighting display provides a focal point of celebrations in the Southern part of the shopping precinct and is a great overall contributor to the festive Christmas lighting in Mosman,” Mayor Corrigan said.

Most sustainable display was awarded to jewellery store Lily & Mitchell on Military Road, which featured a pink hued floral display around the window. This display really caught the judges’ eyes. They felt it made intelligent use of space and demonstrated creativity in its form, with the outcome being a delicate and subtle display that was both beautiful and natural.

“Lily & Mitchell’s display is both attractive and elegant, and cleverly made of all natural materials, most of which will be repurposed and reused after Christmas,” Mayor Corrigan said.

Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and Councillor Libby Moline congratulated the winners and commended all those who entered and who put a lot of time and effort into creating beautiful Christmas displays around Mosman.

Commendations were awarded to Accoutrement, Born to Party, Bounce Sydney – Mosman, Cafe Jam, Donnaluna, Mosman Veterinary Hospital, Mud Australia Store – Mosman, Pages & Pages, Seed, Sharp Image, The Nowhere Nation and Wild Orchid Lingerie.

“We congratulate all the winners, commendations and finalists for Rapt 2018, and look forward to the continuing success of the competition in future years,” Mayor Corrigan said.

Mosman Council and the Mosman Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all the entrants for their participation and the businesses who generously donated prizes for Rapt 2018.
