Work underway for Mosman Junction
The much-anticipated Mosman Junction Upgrade is now underway, with works commencing on the first alfresco dining area last week.
The project will create a new pedestrian-friendly outdoor space in the area which is also known as Centenary Circle where Prince Albert Street, Middle Head Road and Bradleys Head Road converge, to create a safe, functional and vibrant hub.
Mosman Council Director Environment and Planning Craig Covich said the works will include installation of a total of three pedestrian crossings on Middle Head Road, Bradleys Head Road and Prince Albert Street, along with the provision of two outdoor dining areas, the closure of a slip lane and improved paving, lighting and landscaping.
“The project aims to build on the local identity and character of the area, forging a vibrant space for the public,” Mr Covich said. “It is in response to community requests for improvements to the Military Road streetscape spanning seven years.”
The upgrade commenced in early April and is scheduled for completion in August 2018. Current works include the creation of an outdoor dining space to the east of the roundabout and outside The Buena Vista to the south, the closure of the slip lane outside the hotel and footpath improvements.
“Access will be maintained to all restaurants, cafes and shops around Mosman Junction but there will be some parking restrictions where needed,” Mr Covich said. “Construction periods are a necessary but often disruptive time for local businesses so it is important for residents to know their favourite shops are still open and that their continued patronage is appreciated.”
Current works will be followed by the temporary closure of Middle Head Road for three weeks as well as some night works to allow for the installation of a pedestrian crossing and construction of the second alfresco dining space.
“We are approaching a very active period in the upgrade which will inevitably inconvenience locals. We ask they bear with us as we work to create an enjoyable space that residents and businesses will be proud to call their own,” Mr Covich said.
