Images Collection
The Images Collection features images from Mosman Library’s Local Studies Collection including the Carroll Collection.
Currently the Collection consists of approximately 1,400 images of Mosman. These include photographs, drawings and maps from 1789 to the 1980s.
The Carroll Collection
In 2000 Mosman Library was able to put the Carroll Collection onto the Internet with the assistance of a Library Development grant from the State Library of New South Wales.
The Carroll Collection consists of images of Mosman including photographs, drawings and maps covering the period 1789 to 1966. It was collected over many years by former Mayor, and amateur local historian, Dalton Jack Carroll and donated to Mosman Council in the 1950s.
These original images – mounted on boards and placed in wooden frames – are still on view in the Mosman Library.
The publication The Story of the Pictures written by Dalton Jack Carroll provides background information on the images that he collected.
In 1973 Mosman Library placed half of the Carroll Collection in the care of the Mitchell Library on indefinite loan.
